Profile of Mia Tarney - The Artist
Mia Tarney was educated at Heatherleys School of Fine Art 1998 - 2001, obtaining a Diploma in Portraiture and Figurative Painting.
Mia has always lived in Richmond and has been brought up in a creative environment with her father being a musician and her brother in the film industry. She has always been interested in the different forms of art such as composing music, singing, furniture and interior design and, of course, drawing and painting.
After leaving college she carried on with portrait and figurative painting on a commission basis but gradually became more interested in still life. Having great success with larger than life size portraits she continued this idea with flowers. She found that enlarging the scale of her subject matter, dramatically emphasises the form and it becomes more like a landscape of space and shape. Her 'realistic' approach envelops the canvas and almost makes the onlooker want to touch the flowers or object.
